Belgian police on Friday arrested Europe's most wanted fugitive Salah Abdeslam for his alleged involvement in November's attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders also confirmed the arrest in a tweet.
Abdeslam and four other suspects were detained in the raid, including three members of a family that sheltered him. Abdeslam was shot in the leg and was hospitalized, officials said.
"Saleh Abdeslam the key suspect in Paris terror attacks is cooperating with the Belgian police, but he will refuse his client's extradition to France," Abdeslam's lawyer Sven Mary said.
Interpol says after the arrest of Abdeslam, police agency advises extra vigilance at borders as arrest may encourage accomplices to attempt to flee Europe.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel called Friday's arrests a success in the "fight against terrorism."
President Barack Obama congratulated the leaders of Belgium and France over the arrest, in phone calls with both men, the White House said in a statement.
